The internet offers a wide range of tools for users to mask their IP address and obfuscate their geographic location. While there are legitimate reasons for using anonymous IPs, malicious actors exploit them to circumvent regulations and commit fraud. This can cost businesses billions of dollars a year.
Limiting access to your content by anonymous IP list addresses reduces your risk of fraud, while still allowing legitimate users from approved locations to sign in and use your apps and services. You can also use filters to check for VPNs, proxies, and other anonymizers.
Anonymous IP List: Identifying Untraceable IPs
To filter for specific geographic regions, click Add a Geo Pool on the WEBSITES > IP Reputation page. Enter a name for the pool in the New Geo Pool Name field. The name must be at least six characters, include alphanumeric characters, periods (.), hyphens (-), and underscores (_). Then select one or more geographic regions from the map. To display smaller regions inside a continent, click Expand or Collapse.
You can also use a Barracuda reputation blocklist to filter for known sources of spam, malware, bots, and other bad behavior. These lists are based on detecting cyber attacks and other types of abuse, and they are not intended to block all legitimate users. However, all of these lists have a certain percentage of false positives and can affect the performance of your firewall.
